Community Development & Civil Society Enablement

In Hawara (East Nablus), the Palestinian Bible Society (PBS) has a project named "Community Development & Civil Society Enablement." The project started in 2005 due to the difficult political situation in the area. From then until August 2009, the project has been in phase one with a focus on activities. At this time the team has started preparing for phase two which will focus primarily on training leaders.

The development objective is to strengthen the civil society in the East Nablus region through the empowerment of young, potential leaders in existing youth organizations in the villages. The project will support them by modeling attitudes such as a willingness for volunteering, openness and equality. The team desires to bring hope to them for a better future.
 

The goals:
 

• To see 24 youth in 12 local organizations in eight East Nablus villages develop leadership abilities, a volunteering spirit and self-confidence for the benefit of the local community and the strengthening of the civil society, but also to develop individual talents and communication skills.
• To establish an awareness of equality and the importance of inclusion of both genders.
• To assist present leaders in the partnering organizations by providing a platform, and to empower them to work within existing organizations. But also to aid potential leaders in forming new initiatives within existing organizations.
• To develop leadership and mentoring skills within the PBS project team
